Heads up, just noticed in the tv guide it starts tonight, 7pm SBS.

What is everyone's thoughts now that Lee is out injured?

I was just about to start this thread.

Lee's injury is going to have a huge impact on the start of the series, the way he was moving the ball around in the last practice match against the English Lions was menacing.

I also heard that Stuart Clarke isn't playing in favor Ben Hilfenhaus. Stuart Clarke is the most economical bowler in world cricket, it makes no sense that he is not in the team. If they thought they needed Hilfenhaus's swing with Lee out fair enough, but why give Hauritz get a spot. Clarke may not take many wickets but his economy is awesome, Hauritz bleeds runs like crazy and doesn't take wickets.

Makes no sense.

Stuart Clarke isn't match fit hence why he wasn't selected

Ben Hilfenhaus can swing the ball hence warranting a selection

Nathan Hauritz is a dead set dud goes to show Australian selectors are clueless

We don't have a back up batmans if Phillip Hughes or Simon Katich gets injured we have noone to replace them

Shane Watson never should of gotten a selection to injury prone

Brad Hodge should be in the team

Even if Stuart Clarke isn't as fit as he could be, he would still be better then Hauritz. Other then that I agree 100% especially that Brad Hodge should be over there.

And if they were going to take a spinner with them, why not Jason Krazier? He my be a bit expensive but he gets wickets.

despite the lack of experience in our team i think that we're going to do really well.

was good to see siddle with a bitta mungrel in him!!

i had a good laugh about how much talk has been going around about phillip hughes and how the english will be bowling to him (short balls etc). seems the poms are the ones that need to take a good hard look at playing short balls

bopara copped one in the throat and strauss caught out from a short ball.

i love the cricket

Great innings from Ricky Ponting. Hilfenhaus is in the team because he can swing it, he was the pick of the bowlers in the 1st innings. I think you will find Clark will go in for Hauritz next test. I don't rate Johnson that much, to inconsistent, he always seems to take lucky wickets. I guess it can't be luck then. Hauritz is crap, that pitch must be a real turner if even Hauritz could actually make the ball spin.

KP needs to control his ego, it gets him out all the time.

They short balled the shit out of Phil Hughes!

you've got to remember that mitchell johnson is VERY handy with the bat too.

i rate him as a bowler too

Also Johnson seems to bowl heaps better once he's played a bit of cricket, he didn't play in either of the tour matches so this is like his warm up game. As far as his batting goes I basically consider him an all rounder, his batting average is 34.7 and has scored a test 100.

I agree, there is no doubt he deserves his spot. He is the best strike bowler we have, just needs to be more consistent. He is a genuine all rounder I agree, he isn't just a slogger, he can bat, watches it well and has all the shots!

Yeah, I definately agree that Johnson has got some batting talent, even under pressure. We would have been lost without him when the top order were lacking form a while back - he was the saviour in the Aussie camp by wagging the tail...

We're going alright at the moment, only thing that looks like saving the Poms at the moment is the weather.

Yes we are in a rebuilding faze and there are some big shoes to fill. When you consider 3 or 4 of the players who have retired from the Australian side in the last 2-3 years would be in the top ten players of all time. But we seem to be rebuilding a lot faster then most people expected.

You have to understand how amazing that team was. Think about it:

1. Langer

2. Hayden

3. Ponting

4. Martyn/ Mark Waugh

5. Lehman/young Clarke

6. Waugh

7. Gilchrist

8. Warne

9. Lee

10. Gillespie

11. McGrath

Good luck replacing a team like that with all of those players at their prime. You can't expect to routinely have a team that dominated as much as they did!

It should be on SBS all round australia. Pre game show at 7:30pm, match starts at 8:00pm, stumps at around 3:30am.

Edit* those are VIC times, think SA is 30 mins behind.

Question: What do you guys think of Stuart Macgill?

I don't think there is an Aussie cricketer that I have ever really disliked but IMO, Macgill is a complete tosser. To have to listen to him as a presenter and commentator has turned me off watching the Ashes.

I'm with you.. I CAN'T STAND him. He's a shit presenter, with shit jokes, and shit opinions. When it crosses back to him, i change the channel.

Matthews is alright, and Martyn is alright when he gets the nerve to say something.

I don't mind him and his comments, he says what he thinks and he does know a lot about spin bowling.

I agree about Martyn, was a fantastic player but doesn't seem a confident or loud enough personality for TV.

Struggle in the final stages of his career, but for the majority of his Test career was awesome, one of the best in the world.
