Hey all

Cant make up my mind between the subie wrx and the jzx100. jzx100 is more powerful, but subie has awd and is newer. im looking at 06 model and up. maybe the 04-05 too but mainly the 06 model. torque isnt too bad at 330nm @ 3600rpm i think it was, but power is like 172kw @ 5600rpm? jzx100 is 206kw @ 6400rpm and 377nm @ 2400rpm. Good thing bout the jzx100 is it's cheaper, however it will de-value quicker too and parts are still a little hard to come by. but they are nearly $10k cheaper than the 06 models. i know toyota's reliability but when it's a 11 year old + car i dunno bout things like suspension, turbo wear etc. Subies are usually thrashed too generally (the reputation) but the 06 models should be ok as they dont have many kms on them and out of price range of kids who love to thrash. i heard subies are fairly reliable too though and that the boxer is a pretty good engine.

what do you guys think between the two?

Possibly asking the wrong section unless you're looking for buy a Subaru as an answer :P

JZX100 are older, rarer and are less known by mechanics. This means there is more wear and tear, less parts available and less people who are able to solve niggly little problems. Also wreckers can charge a premium for parts because they know you're not getting them anywhere else. There's no evidence to say a JZX100 (especially a 2jz turbo model) has been thrashed any less than a 2006 WRX. Except of course unless you add in the fact JZX's are 1-2 years older, meaning they've had more days of thrashing in them. Just food for thought.

My advice to people who are looking to buy a car is to ultimately test drive both types of cars. Think about your requirements now and in the future (5 years). Whichever you feel best suits you now and feels right is the car you should go with.

thanks man. yeh just asking on subaru forum because i want to know a little more about them. when did the wrx change from 5x100 stud pattern to 5x114.3. because i would like a wide variety of wheel choices and having 5x100 isnt good for that. yes there are plenty of wheels for that range but not as many as 5x114.3! i like 2006's the most, followed by the 08 hatch then the 04. how about liberty's? are they good? otherwise the Evo Viii or IX sounds good too. But interior is shitter and doesnt sound as good so wont know til i drive one. jzx100 is 10k cheaper approximately so spending that 10k on the chaser would make it reliable and have good mods etc. but the car will surely devalue lots in the years to come. How bout insurance? WRX's fetch a high premium i hear! cheaper rego though than the chaser! and like you said before its a whole generation newer. 10yrs! by time i get one it will be 4-5 yrs old. only thing bout the jzx100 is the engine! heard its very reliable and more so than subie?

I'm not 100% but i'm pretty sure you're looking at 2008-2009 for Subarus to have a 5x144.3, although rumour is '05 STis had 5x114.3. I think you're going to find even with 5x114.3 rim selection is still small due to the offset required.

Liberties are awesome, very luxurious. I was looking at getting a B4 next year some time, or if I can afford a later model. EVO's are worth nearly double a WRX of the same year which was the problem when I wanted to buy my WRX.

I can't comment on insurance, however you can fill out some online quotes from all the big insurance companies to get a rough idea. Most insurance companies will jack the price up for any import that isn't locally delivered due to difficulty of finding parts and repairers willing to fix them.

Engine will only be as reliable as the service history, the way it's been treated and the way you maintain it once you take ownership. I haven't had many big problems with my WRX, although I have no idea what it would compare to with a JZX.

more looking at evo's now. dunno i kinda am pitted in this wrx evo battle lol. the evo seems to do so much better in the reviews! imo looks better too. but yeh the wheels cant get a lot of low offsets without serious guardwork and/or widebody. same as the chaser too.
