Plans:
The plan with this car is to have it as a 'streetable' track car. The idea being that modifications will be consulted with both the chosen workshop and an engineer before any are made to see the requirements. The car is to be kept street legal, with full interior trim. Total power is not the goal, more response and grip.

Modifications:
- Turbo Back Exhaust

Planned Modifications:
- 2.5L or 3.0L Turbo engine conversion
- Upgraded topmount intercooler
- STI 6spd Gearbox
- Upgrade of drivetrain
- Suspension modifications to support track work and the new engine
- Brake upgrades to support track work and the new engine
- Lightweight 16" or 17" racing rims
- Upgraded cooling system

What engine conversion are you considering? I'm assuming the later 2.5L engine that came with rex's but which 3.0?

Supposebly a cheaper option to a big rebuild is to get a new STI short block and drop that in. Get a larger VF series direct bolt on turbo, with a few supporting mods and you could have a reliable 200kw at all wheels which would make it perfect for circuit work.

Also if its going to be used for track work why not get the 5 speed rebuilt with straight cut gears (helical cut if you want it quieter) which is about $6k. This is a cheaper option than a 6 speed conversion on a GC8 and as they use synchro's shift just as easily.

Also the MY99+ came standard with 4 pot brakes so thats a good start in the braking department too.

3.0 L N/A (EZ30R) engine from Gruppe-S and drop compression to 8.5 using CP pistons & metal head gaskets...

Quote

The EZ30R engines are only 1.5" longer than the EJ25 and fit right in the engine bay even with the stock fans in place. The EZ30R weights 70lbs more then the EJ25

I'd have to try to counter the 70lbs at the front so I don't lose the balance of the car. A 6cyl WRX would be TOUGH though.

Mmmm sounds expensive....what sort of $$$ would you be looking at for that setup?

Will definantly want a PPG or similar box behind it if your going to run a 6cyl torque monster.

Have you towed anything with the WRX yet? I'm thinking of getting one but would need to be able to tow a jetski...

Haven't towed anything. The max towing capacity is 750kg (or so it says in the manual).

Nice one!

Who are the good workshops over there?

How long do you plan for your project to take ?

I'm not rushing the project. The plan is to get everything sorted out first. I'm estimating end of next year to be honest.

Haven't decided on a workshop.

I have seen a post where they've put one in a WRX and turbo'd it. Insane is all I can think of to say

Er...

Big end is not blown, a spark plug lead had disconnected itself and the tapping noise was the lead sparking on the block ^_^

Hmm, good point... You never asked though!

Nice ride dude !

If your looking for engine work would not go past URD

Havent owned a wrx yet myself ... but i am really good mates with the old mechanic that worked there ryan and tony himself

Seen the work they have done on my step-dads rex, many other wrx's and most recently my mates MY99 wrx that blew a motor due to dodgey tunning Posted Image ... he had a STI short block done there and many other toys done there along with servicing and the work is second to none !

Best of luck with the car dude ! Posted Image
